The TGA 5030 is a Three Phase, Permanent Magnet type Wye connected AC Tachogenerator. This generator monitors/ controls Diesel Engine speed. The generator is gear driven by Railway Diesel Engine and generates an output signal proportional to engine speed. This signal is used to control the engine performance.

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

The Permanent Magnet AC Tachogenerator develops a voltage proportional to speed. Use of permanent magnet instead of electromagnet eliminates the need for a separate DC source and makes the device extremely reliable and stable. While the voltage induced by an ordinary generator may be generally proportional to speed, the output of a Tachogenerator is required to be strictly proportional to speed to serve as a speed transducer. TGA 5030 meets this stringent requirement admirably.
