PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
DC Brush Type Linear Motor operates on the same principle as applicable to a Rotary Brush Motor. However the wound part Equivalent to Stator of the Rotary Motor are laid out in a linear fashion and either part is capable of moving in a linear direction with respect to the other part. For convenience the wound part with commutator is kept stationary and PM structure moves as a rotor.

CONSTRUCTION
The Linear Motor consists of an assembly of two main parts in open execution Ip00

STATOR: Consists of stationary coil assembly and flat commutator. The wound coils are inserted in a linear laminated silicon steel stack and suitably interconnected to the flat commutator to accept the operating current from the Drive.

ROTOR: Consists of permanent magnet structure moving on linear guides maintaining a constant air-gap with respect to Stator. The structure also carries the Brushes feeding the operating current to the Stator via the commutator.

The Stator and Rotor together with the commutator form the Electromagnetic system very similar to a rotary DC machine.
A linear scale of appropriate accuracy Linear Encoder is to be mounted on the Stator to provide position velocity feedback to the drive. The system operates as a Brush Type PMDC Motor providing controlled Linear movement in combination with a Linear Encoder and suitable Electronic drive.
